A Note from the Photographer:

Photography is an elegiac art, a twilight art. Most subjects photographed are, just by virtue of being photographed, touched with pathos. All photographs are 'memento mori'. To take a photograph is to participate in another person's mortality, vulnerability, mutability. Precisely by slicing out this moment and freezing it, all photographs testify to time's relentless melt.

~I wish to dedicate this photograph of Lorraine Wildeman to Phyllis Clarke for her constant assistance, encouragement and vision. Thanks Phyllis.

  6. Dearest Noelle,

These images are special.  They touch me so, my sister lived in SA for twenty years, I visited and became bound-up with the country, culture, music .  There is something about this kind of photography that fill a space in your heart like nothing else can, my own images are mostly landscape, have tried street shots but not personal ones like these, not brave enough!

    Lovely haiku too,

    Sue x

  14. You got that entirely right, Noelle. The curve of her arm as she reached
for the dog in the top picture was especially moving; it was so graceful.
