The Harvest of Sweet Soft Souls in West Africa

Cotton Harvesting Cotton harvesting around Banfora, Burkina Faso. By Yann Arthus Bertrand.

Prayer for the Journey
Journeying god,
pitch your tent with mine
so that I may not become deterred
by hardship, strangeness, doubt.
Show me the movement I must make
toward a wealth not dependent on possessions,
toward a wisdom not based on books,
toward a strength not bolstered by might,
toward a god not confined to heaven.
Help me to find myself as I walk in other's shoes.
(Prayer song from Ghana, traditional, translator unknown)

My thanks to Joe Riley at Panhala.net for sharing this poem http://www.panhala.net/Archive/Journeying_god.html

  1. What amazing photos you find -- and the prayer resonates so much that it makes my heart tremble.

  2. Thank you Meri. I love this photo--a workplace where children are welcome--a part of the harvest-- and this prayer is one that resonated deeply with me as well. I believe that it expresses the very heart of Africa and also the spirit of ubuntu (a bantu expression from South Africa)and one that Desmond Tutu often speaks of "I am because We Are"
