March 23, 2012- Chicagoans lend their voices to the National uproar, demanding justice for Trayvon Martin. The unarmed 17-year-old was returning from a local convenience store when he was fatally shot by neighborhood watch captain, George Zimmerman in Sanford, Florida.
Before gunning Trayvon Martin down with a 9mm, Zimmerman spotted the teenager and called police because he thought Martin looked suspicious. In the call, Zimmerman tells police, "he has something in his hands. I don't know what his deal is..." and identifies him as a black teenager, wearing a hoodie and jeans.
When asked if he is following the teen, Zimmerman responded, "yes", before being told affirmatively by police "we don't need you to do that."
At the time of his death, Martin was carrying a can of iced-tea and Skittles, and was walking through the gated community where his father lives.
Zimmerman was never arrested.
